to elect a new pope will be held by the end of march. president obama reportedly is preparing to announce new reductions to the country's arsenal of nuclear weapons. in his state of the union address tuesday night, obama is expected to announce plans to cut the number of deployed warheads to just over 1000. one-third reduction from the current number of around 1700. a former l.a. police officer accused of killing three people after posting a revenge and a faster online remains on the loose in california. on friday, the lapd announced it would reopen a probe into the incident that caused the former officer, christopher dorner, to lose his job. dorner was fired in 2008 for making false statements after he complained his training officer had kicked a mentally ill suspect during an arrest. in a statement announcing the new investigation, the lapd to said it would be reexamined. at a news conference, commander smith said the police department is not seeking to appease dorner, but encouraging transparency. >> we're not opening it up because of the accusations or the musings of someone who is a

of expectations that we were going to get more transparency, particularly because president obama had just the night before said senators could -- senators from the intelligence committees could read the classified office memo, it did not lead to any greater sunlight about the program itself. first of all, that memo remains classified. the senators were allowed to go in, not their staffs, and by virtue of the fact that it remains classified, they couldn't even ask brennan any questions about what it is they read. and brennan himself was actually, in many respects, less forthcoming about the drone and targeted killing program than he has been in the past. he didn't even use the word drone, something that he had in a speech last year. so while he defended the program in general terms, said it was a last resort, said that we are actually trying to prevent, save lives, not punish people for past actions, revealed very little about the process by which people are selected for targeted killings, what the review process is, what the checks are, and those are are the questions at the core of this

school student. she played volleyball. she performed with her school's marching band at president obama's marching band last month. that was january 21st. on january 29th, she and friends caught cover because of rain. it was only a mile from barack and michelle's home in chicago. a person with a gun approached the group and started shooting. hideya pendleton was not the shooter's target, however. on saturday in chicago, there will be a funeral service for hideya pendleton. the white house let it be known to be that first lady michelle obama will be at the funeral, which will make this even more of a national scale tragedy than it already is.
